On the Air
My list of favorite films is dominated by Iranian New Wave, Japanese Golden Age, and the work of masters like Akira Kurosawa, Steven Spielberg, Abbas Kiarostami,  Spike Jonze, and so on. However, when looking at this list, there is one film that sits near the top that feels out of place. Gareth Edward's 2014 Godzilla remake.
While I'll nearly always love a monster movie no matter its quality, what draws me to Gareth Edward's Godzilla is ironically, its tendency to avoid showing the monsters. Instead, they are shown from a human perspective, most noticeably through fleeting images on TVs. In many ways, it is imagery we are all familiar with, drawing parallels with 9/11 and other disasters, that at the time, seemed as implausible as a giant monster attack.
