The events that set the story in motion were purposefully kept as abstract as possible, as the film's focus was not the disaster itself, but the emotional toll it inflicted. That said, it was essential to the film that the scope of the disaster was immediately established, and while only briefly on screen I edited together this faux-newsreel to establish the setting of the world and played it on the TV in the background.
